Earlier today I armed myself with my ipod full of music, a bottle of water, and a mental photo of the google map leading me to the grocery store on the other side of the island. We have one close to us, but I bought all of their chicken yesterday so I had to head out to the bigger grocery today to see how many chicken breasts they had for me to buy.
I am cooking for me, Dan and Ben...and with the way we have been eating chicken breasts you would think it was growing on trees. Dan and I are doing Insanity workout and trying to follow the meal plan and Ben is a very healthy eater in general. So cooking chicken has become my day job.
In truth, the market was a great excuse to see St. Julians and to prove to my roommates that I am not as directionally challenged as they are. See on Tuesday of last week I sent the 4 of them off to find this store and get some food for dinner while I waited on the internet man. It took them forever and they got lost both going to the store and coming home. Then on Wednesday night, we all got lost heading to dinner for Laura's birthday. Today though, I made it there and back alone! Shocking for most who know me since directions and maps are not my strong suit. I have to let Dan be good at something ;)
St. Julians is a cute town, but different from Sliema where we live. It seems to be the more touristy part of the island. The Hilton is there, there is much more international shopping and bigger stores. The casino is over there. Most of St. Julians is new-ish and not as Maltese as I think Sliema is. The grocery store was great and I am glad to know I can go just 2.5 km and have all new options for groceries.
The boys have been busy working away. Laura has been reading a ton and sitting out on our balcony during the day to escape the quiet apartment. I went to the store this morning and have been hanging out around the house all afternoon. I made dinner for Ben and Dan- a spicy shrimp dish with corn and black beans...gotta mix it up from all this chicken! Laura is currently trying to entice me into going out for a beer. I think she wins over blogging.
Hope things are going well back in the States. I didn't get up for the game, but saw the aftermath this morning when I woke up. Roll Tide!
Until tomorrow...xo

Looks beautiful there! Glad you are finding groceries! That was a big challenge for me when we got here! How is Insanity? I got it for Christmas and plan to start it as soon as the boys get fully adjusted to the time change to get rid of the baby fat! I hear its crazy though! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteRachel, groceries are the worst part of moving! Luckily we have found everything we eat at a few different stores. I can't even imagine trying to do it in Israel. We miss chick-fil-a! :) Insanity...hmmm...how do I describe it...INSANE. I keep asking myself why I thought it was a good idea to get it for Dan for Christmas. It's so tough, but we are enjoying it and already seeing changes. Hope things are going well this week and those babies are getting some sleep.
