Mdina Experience

On Saturday, Dan and I ventured out for our weekend tour of the island. This week we chose Mdina- a medieval walled town and the former capital of Malta. The show Game of Thrones was filmed here...I haven't seen it, but Dan said that Kings Landing is actually Mdina.

We took a bus about 30 to 40 minutes away to Mdina and toured for a few hours. It is very beautiful and feels like ancient times, but surprisingly people still live there full time. Mdina is said to have the best views of Malta and it didn't disappoint. The highest part of the city overlooks all of Malta and was the clear vantage point for the military that was stationed there when Mdina was the capital city.

Best way of transportation around Mdina...no cars allowed

Mdina is also known for its glass. They have a gorgeous glass shop there and lots of handmade glass pieces for sale. Another fun thing we were on the lookout for was the door knockers. I had read before we went that there is a special factory that makes elaborate door knockers and Mdina had one on almost every door. So we have lots of pictures of detailed and artistic door knockers.

The main attraction in the center of the city is St. Paul's Cathedral. In the Acts of the Apostles, it was said that Paul was shipwrecked here in Malta. In Mdina, there is also a convent and monastery.

After a lunch of great maltese pizza we headed home and enjoyed the afternoon curled up on the couch. It has been very gray and rainy lately...we are ready for some sunshine!

Hope everyone had a great Monday...

Until tomorrow...xo
