Monday, Monday, Monday...you were oh so entertaining this week!
Laura- I know I keep talking about her in my blogs, but she has been a great friend here, and loves to just meet up and hang out since we both get bored in our apartments- had heard about this website called meetup.com or something. She signed up and found a book club to join here in Toronto when they moved here in June. Well, the book club wasn't what she was looking for exactly, but an idea was formed.
Laura set up a "meet up" herself and posted it on the website a week or so ago. It was titled "I love God, Yoga and Coffee." Since we are friends, I had absolutely nothing going on, it seemed like a good way to get out of the house, and aside from the coffee part I was good, I signed up too.
Over the last week there have been some messages sent to the meetup board from people who want to join or just give their opinion. Some have been helpful, while others have provided a good laugh for the 4 of us. So to say this meet up could be a interesting was an understatement.
This morning I went and met Laura to see who else was going to join the group. Laura first got kicked out of Starbucks because there wasn't enough room and the Starbucks manager had to have a staff meeting. So she moved the party down the block to a little breakfast place, and boy was I glad to have food as a distraction!
In all, there were 5 of us. All females- the group was for girls only- who live in the Toronto area and wanted to meet other people. All in all, we had a Catholic school teacher, a divorcee, an escort, and Laura and I- the new girls in town. Everyone had a very different personality and style, so that made some of the conversations lively.
Over the hour we all chatted about various topics, but mostly Laura and I tried to ask questions about things to do in Toronto etc. They of course found Dan and Mike's job strange, but were very accepting of us. It was a great chance to meet people in the area, which is exactly what we signed up for.
Obviously, since our group was pretty diverse and we kept having to introduce ourselves to each person who joined the group, the others in the restaurant were in no hurry to get their checks. They had a free show to watch :)
At the end of the meeting as we were all getting up to leave a guy about my age who had been sitting a table or two over alone said, "So you two are new to the area? Looking to make friends, huh? How'd that go." He simply smiled and politely left. I couldn't help but laugh and think 'is it that obvious?!'
All in all it was a great day. Nice to start off the morning getting out of the house. I had a great run this afternoon, and Dan has been busy at the tables all day. I enjoyed my meeting this morning and experiencing a new area of Toronto and meeting new people. Who knows what the next meet up will hold!
