So grocery shopping is a new experience here in the city. The stores are laid out much differently than Kroger or Harris Teeter or even Target. Plus, lots of the foods are different, in different measurements and weights, and of course, the prices.
We did find a Walmart to get our necessities- which has been nice, and exactly what you'd expect from Walmart. There is also a grocery called No Frills which is very clean and has great produce. They have zero displays, promotions, bakery, lunch meat counter, etc. It's bare bones set up with competitive prices. We have to drive to these two, so we save these for weekly or bi-weelky trips in bulk.
For any daily needs, there is market we can walk to to get anything we could need that is nice and similar to a small American grocery. There is also a Whole Foods right next to our building, but we have stayed away from that for the most part. Whole Foods = Whole Paycheck. :)
Since we've been here I've been cooking dinners, and so far they have been pretty successful. Nothing fancy. Definitely not Giada style, or even Paula Dean at this point, but after our week or so of traveling before Toronto it's been nice to be back in the kitchen.
Here are some of our meals:
Last night, we went to Akai Sushi for date night with our new friends here- Mike & Laura. They are from Pittsburgh, but Mike also plays poker so they moved here in June. It was incredible sushi and we had a great time! Afterwards, we all went to the Regal Beagle for drinks. Such a great night out with great new friends!
So, I know that's not the most exciting update, but it's a Friday. And it's time for me to start getting tonight's dinner ready...pork tenderloin from the Market, wild rice and salad.
Have a great Friday night!
