I don't know when or how it happened, but it is already February 2nd. Seems impossible. How is this year flying by already!? It is so hard to believe that we have been in Malta for an entire month and have less than 27 days left here. Excited and sad all at the same time. A very bittersweet move for us at the end of the month.
We are definitely still enjoying our time here. It has been a tough few days- the weather has been really gray and rainy, we got a crazy high bill for electricity that was unexpected ( somewhat of a "I miss America" moment), the excitement of the island/neighborhood is gone a bit- but it's nothing we can't fix with a few living changes and a night out for dinner.
Ben has moved his office into his bedroom this week. He decided he works better where he is less distracted, and to be honest, I can't blame him at all. Since the internet doesn't work in our bedrooms, the 5 of us have basically all been living in the kitchen, hall, living room area. The boys were all working in there and Laura and I had no where really to go. So we got Ben an internet stick from the cell phone store and set his desk up in his room.
Last night after all of the stress of the end of January and what to do for March built up, we decided a dinner out and a cold beer could fix it. We all went to the Penny Black bar which is in the lobby of a hotel here- the Victoria- and had the most amazing burgers with an onion marmalade and a draught Stella. Great night out and definitely needed!
I know a few weeks ago I said we had a plan for March and beyond...well, now we officially have March booked. Here it goes- there are some changes from the previous plan- shocking, I know.
Feb. 29th - March 4th: Rome, Italy
March 4th - March 7th: Amsterdam, Netherlands
March 7th- March 31st: Barcelona, Spain
We finally have our housing booked and flights! We decided that scheduling a longer stay in Barcelona was the best idea for us as a group. The boys (Ben & Dan) will get to work for 3 1/2 weeks solid with no moves. We found a great apartment in Barcelona for our stay. Amsterdam is still on the itinerary, just a shortened stay since it will be really cold. We will put all of our time in Rome & Amsterdam into doing fun touristy things and then get to slowly enjoy Barcelona. Should be a great month!
Unfortunately, we have no plans for March 31st and beyond. Our renters in North Carolina just signed a second year starting July 1st, so that is definitely a blessing. One less thing on our plate to worry about. It also gives us flexibility of when we will return to the US and where we can live while they are renting. Keeps our options open a bit which is nice.
So a less fun and more informational update on our lives today. We have been busy busy- me with planning and helping the boys get situated...Dan with work.
We are thinking about touring again this weekend to either Valletta or the island of Gozo. Carnival is starting up next week or so here and they apparently have big celebrations all over Malta. We are intrigued to see what that entails and what fun things we can get into.
